Introducing Two Breitling Top Time Chronographs With Deus Ex Machina And Triumph Motorcycles

The two new chronos tap into the love of motorcycle culture alongside two notable brands.

What We Know

Back in March, Breitling released four new Top Time chronographs based around four iconic classic cars. But if you're a motorcycle fan and felt left out, your wait is over. Introducing the new Breitling Top Time chronographs with Triumph motorcycles and Australian motorcycle, apparel, and accessory and lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina.

The two new watches, powered by the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01, build on the Breitling past limited edition collaborations with the two brands but now with their third and now core-collection release. Both in stainless steel – with a ice blue with black contrasting chronograph counters for the Triumph and black dial with white counters for the Deus – the watches come with a choice of black calfskin or strap mesh bracelet.

There is a bit of red on the Deus model's outer track (a warning toyou if you're going way too fast, it seems) and on the lightning bolt-shaped seconds hand and the two chronograph counters. The Triumph model has its own special touches, with only two registers and a tachymeter, a retro Breitling logo, mushroom pushers, and a "Zorro" dial design. The bowtie Zorro motif introduced on the Top Time in the 1960s is hidden on the dial using a metal brushing technique that makes it only visible from certain angles. Both have a sapphire caseback to see the Calibre 01 movement.

If you couldn't grab one of the previous collaborations but love both Breitling and Deus or Triumph, you've got some time now to save up and buy a watch when you're ready. The pieces both measure 41mm wide and 13.3mm thick, with 100m water resistance and will run $8,000.

What We Think

I'm on a bit of an automotive kick lately. Whether its classic cars, motorcycles, or even classic car clothing, I can't get enough. And while cars are a bit newer to me, old motorcycles are something I've been interested in for a long time just based on history alone (even if I don't own one myself). So between a brand focused largely on apparel (including classic clothing) and one of the most iconic motorcycle brands in history, these releases from Breitling really have my interest firing on all cylinders.

Starting with the Triumph, the blue color didn't strike me at first when I saw the images but it grew on me quickly. It looks like a solid choice for a two-register chronograph. The Deus model is more traditional in many ways, a simple reverse panda chronograph but with nice touches of color and Deus' motto In Benzin Veritas on the tachymeter scale.

It's a crowded market when it comes to vehicle-inspired or motorsports chronographs, especially for a classic-loving crowd where simple is often better. But Breitling seems to have done a great job finding a niche in motorcycles, with two solid brands, and two very nice-looking watches.
